Laziest Garden

Would you look at the state of that!

This is a photo of my kids’ school garden which a few of us parents decided to tackle over a couple of weekends and the odd evening over the summer.

I ended up doing quite a bit myself but, to be far, the other parents had done a lot more then me in the past - it was my turn!

s just too big a space for a school to maintain as an occasional garden for the kids.


So, once we had dug out all the grass and weeds I laid weedblock sheeting over everything!

I laid the weedblock sheeting between the beds and raked over a couple of tonnes of gravel to make easy pathways.

I also fixed sheeting over two of the larger beds so the school can cut into those and plant permanent apple trees or fruit bushes whilst having no maintenance to do on the rest.

For the longer beds I created some removal panels of sheeting - so the school can decide how much planting they want to do without exposing the rest of the bed to weed growth - and once their are finished with that season they can cover over again without too many weeds getting a hold.

Here I used weedblock again around these tyres and built wooden tops so the kids can use them as a desk / drawing area.

I didn’t want you to think I’ve just been lazing around this past week....!
