Vikki already has a concrete base we can use to sit the new greenhouse on.

I’m building one to fit the width of the base - 3.2m by 3.2m.  The existing concrete is substantial but the surface had started to crumble away along the surface over the years.  I laid some concrete flags and set Cornish pebbles in wet cement to give a clean and maintenance free interior.

The new greenhouse structure seems to sit really well with the old original building behind it.  I love that old door and the tools hanging up - this greenhouse is going to be well used.

The finished base with new slabs and Cornish pebbles to the sides.

I added pillars to each wall for extra strength(nice to know it can take it if you push a wheelbarrow full into it!)

Vikki asked for a cat flap too after reading about one on this website.  You can se the opening ready to take the cat flap.

You can also see the new screed I gave the crumbling surface of the rest of the slab - yet to dry off.

Miles from home (....about 2)

I spent this week just outside the village of Caerwys, a few miles from my home.

The weather was scary - very strong winds which threw everything it could at me.  I got the gazeebo up on the first morning but couldn’t get it down again without fear of it taking off.

However, the wind managed to dry off the mortar quickly without the rain worrying it too much.

This one is another of the popular 5m long by 3.5m wide with two cold-frames (see the last entry in Halifax to get an idea how this one will look).

Marking out the new greenhouse with the owner to get it just in the right place before I start.

We angled the entrance a little towards the house - just cos. we could!

This shows progress on the 3rd day.  It went a little slower on this build - the weather was horrific.  Force 8 gales, snow, sleet, rain.  The only way to keep the gazeebo up was to angle it into the wind but it didn’t provide any cover.  The rain was horizontal.

I’ve installed natural sandstone flags inside and added a pathway linking the greenhouse to the main path.

Whilst laying the foundations I dug in a corrugated access pipe so Les can add water and electricity inside easily at a later date.
