Rain...rain...rain.... yeh, but it turned out nice again.

The whole country seemed to be washed out in rain this week.

It was a constant downpour on the Wednesday while I was trying to get the glass in.  But there were some short periods in the week where the sun came out and dried everything up.  I worked from 8am until 9:30 most days this week - a very big greenhouse so it needed a little more time than usual.  Tony assures me he’s going to fill it with plants.  I really really want to see that!

You wouldn’t believe how quickly this greenhouse gets hot - so plenty of ventilation.

I put 8 opening windows along the sides, 6 automatic windows in the roof and a large one above the potting station along the back.

Big enough?Tony asked me to design a greenhouse to fit exactly on an existing concrete base.

I took this photo after unloading the van on the first day - nice sunny day then.  It hardly looks like enough materials around to build the greenhouse but nearly every greenhouse I build fits in my van (this one took me 2 trips though!  I was on the way to Brighton anyway...)

I loved building this huge greenhouse - exciting, great fun - but it’s also comforting to know that the next few are quite small.  A change is as good as a rest they say! On we go...

I received some great photos from a couple of customers this week showing what they’ve done around the greenhouse and how it’s settling in.

Bob and Kate have a great eye - love that off-set path and it’s so nice to see the plants softening that brickwork. In contrast

I would have loved the ground to be this clean and dry when I came to construct this greenhouse.  I built this one in constant rain and the mud on this hill coated everything and all of me.  Looks great now though eh?  It’s all worth it!

Snow storms sweep UK - off to sunny BRIGHTON FOR ME THEN!

BATTLING THROUGH SNOW STORMS FOR 150 MILES, DROP OFF A VAN LOAD OF MATERIALS FOR THE HUGE GREENHOUSE I’M BUILDING IN ADSTONE NEXT WEEK THEN CARRY ON TO THE SUN IN BRIGHTON - A SMALL BUT TALL GREENHOUSE IN THE CITY.

What a fun, vital varied city Brighton is eh - still, I’m there to work so on we go!

Here’s Nathan’s back garden before we start.  It’s quite small but Nathan is a keen allotment gardener and he’ll be growing a lot to transplant on.

Picture
Completed base - a bit of scrubbing down with brick acid to remove the odd mortar drip once I had finished.

Got to love that Lichen colour on the wallplates.  It has become the most popular colour and  rightly so -   a bright but natural green I think (not that I know much about colours - I leave that to you  - but I like what I see).

Picture
Green Bug van on the city streets - cold bacon butty on the sea front for breakfast.  Lovely!
Picture
Here’s the shape the greenhouse will take.  Remember it’s a tall one - so when I return in a few weeks you won’t notice many of the buildings behind.

You’ve got to admit, it’s a nicely laid-out garden in a small site.  The oak lined oblong you see will be a Thyme lawn - I’ll sneek a picture of that in all it’s glory when I get back there next ok!
