Boring right? Same old beautiful greenhouse in an amazing setting - and so how does that help you?

Well you can have this greenhouse - it cost £8,940 including VAT - and everything you see from the foundations to finials, shelving, guttering and even coat rack - and if you can’t afford one that big let me know your budget and I’ll draw up a plan to suit.

Apart from the few flies you see sitting on it these greenhouses are very tidy - there isn’t a screw-head showing or a single gap where wood joints wood.

Mind you, I did leave a couple of fingerprints on the glass Ralph pointed out - nobody’s perfect and I’m getting better!

It was a week of extreme weather - we had hail and storm showers and, minutes later, blistering sunshine - not unlike the last time I was here carving through the clay!

All the shelving is sanded to a smooth finish before installation also - I wanted to make greenhouses that look great on the outside and are workshops within but they are getting to be like someone’s front room now and I couldn’t be more proud.

Back to Bury St Edmunds grade II listed wall

The challenges here?- a listed wall.
I’m allowed to drill into the top few courses but must leave the rest untouched.

I want to get a nice sharp slope on the roof (it helps keep the roof clean and water proof if the water runs off quickly) but I have to make enough head room inside so you can move around freely.

I’m also really keen to make this one look beautiful - in a classic, period-style kind of way...So I opted for cast-iron effect guttering (you get the look without the maintenance issues) and cast iron door and window furniture.

This particular (listed!) flint wall also gives off loads of heat so it was important to have lots of ventilation. We have 5 automatic-opening windows in the roof and 5 manual opening windows around the sides.

Here are the shelves in place and, the next photo, the brackets alone.

I also wanted to make use of all that wonderful wall space for shelving.

Knowing that I can’t drill into it (and that the wall is really bumpy and sloping) - I created some hanging shelves supported from above.
