I find myself at the other end of the country this week - down near Southampton to build a a "Tim". This greenhouse is like the "Steve" with it's reduced height porch but I've made the porch a little wider to give more height to the entrance and it's a little longer at 4m.

The downside for Tim is I will have to contruct the greenhouse entirely back at my workshop to make sure all the valley glass works so it takes longer to work everything out and get back. The next person to choose a Tim doesn't need to worry as all the dimensions will be on file.

The greenhouse almost completely fills the space my customer wants - which is why it measures 4m by 3.5 of course.

I've also been asked to add a long cold frame along one wall and the hardwood crested ridge (mahogany). This greenhouse will be made from the standard tanalised timber - which will make a nice change after all the accoya ones I've been making lately.

Quite a distance from home this week - a 9-hour drive up to the mountains West of Aberdeen. My customer had this base built by a skilled local builder called Roy (nice bloke) and I worked with Emma to take down all the measurements of the walls as carefully as possible before constructing this large greenhouse. It is 6.5m along the back and 4m wide with a 2m wide porch. One of the tricky parts was making sure the back wall height is correct as this determines the overall height of the structure - and just in case, I added a row of small windows along the rear to give us a bit of extra space inside.

Thankfully it all fitted together as planned. On the follow-up visit I can install the valley glass which I worked out on site, and sort out the infill against the granite walls along the rear. Emma wants the guttering to run inside here so she can have a rainwater source for the plants inside.

I will also need to source some extra wide accoya for the internal cills.

This whole structure is made from accoya which should be up to the challenging weather of the Scottish Highlands. Accoya is guaranteed for 50 years against rot or other deterioration. The Profilan paint I coat it with lasts 10 years with 3 coats but for this exposed project I added 6 coats of paint to all the roof timbers.
