Thanks to Peter for this wonderful picture of his tomatoes growing now! I built his greenhouse a year ago. Unbelievably he is still getting toms at the end of December. "Can’t believe the greenhouse is still producing these at the end of December!"

Paula and David could be very specific about their requirements for a greenhouse as the structure for it had already been built around 18 months ago.

In some ways, this makes things easy and not being far away from me (about 65 miles) I could get all the measurements before building.

This is another accoya greenhouse with a 50 year guarantee and the reassurance that the timber won't swell or warp whatever the weather throws at it.

Paula and David asked me to lay a floor of setts within their greenhouse - doesn't it look great with all Paula's tools and equipment all lined up and ready. Loving the picture on the wall too - that's a first.

Lean-to in Lockerbie

Not that much difference between the two pictures at this stage.

The plan here is to reinstate a lean-to greenhouse which used to sit against this wall. You can still see the noggins protruding from the wall on which the ridge plate will rest again.

For now, my job was to build the dwarf wall on two sides and take measurements.

However, it would have looked odd to build a posh new greenhouse and not renovate the leaking corrugated roof of the adjacent shed - so that gave me another job.

I stripped off the old sheeting, reinforced the roof structure with more 4x2 timbers and added insulation and a roof window. I then laid 18mm OSB flat roof boarding before covering with EPDM and lead flashing the upstands and abutments in Code 4 lead. If you've never heard of EPDM (here's a link) it's basically a highly durable rubber flat roof covering (doesn't degrade with uv, doesn't expand in hot weather, no maintenance - life expectancy 40 years).

Now back to the workshop to build and paint (in "Green Smoke" - nice colour choice) ready for installing this one in the new year.

This one will have a long, low span - almost 3m long at only 16 degrees - so I'll be using 4x2 timbers, cross beams and a central support pillar to prepare for all possible weathers and snow loads up here in Lockerbie.
